MITIGATING RISK NEW DRIVERS
The 10th Annual World LNG Summit & Award Gala Dinner took place on 1-4 December 2009. Four hundred delegates from over 40 countries descended on Barcelona to debate the challenges and opportunities facing the global LNG industry at the end of 2009. LNG producing countries turned out in force with delegations from Qatar, Russia, Australia, Nigeria, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Venezuela, Indonesia and Malaysia in attendance.
Featuring high in the rigorous discussions were demand recovery, shale gas and the need for an alternative pricing mechanism for LNG. The mood of the Summit was one of positivity with many looking forward towards demand recovery and growth.
A real highlight of the Summit was the Award Gala Dinner which took place against the spectacular backdrop of the Cavas Codorniu Winery. The Qataris swept the board with RasGas Company Ltd scooping the LNG Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry in 2009, His Excellency Dr Ibrahim B Ibahim taking home the LNG Visionary Award and the LNG Lifetime Contribution Award went to His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah.
